Recognising parallels 

PURE Co has worked with Tarmac for many years developing a strong relationship along the way. So when they were acquired by CRH we understood the concerns around bringing two different businesses together and were keen to find a way of offering positive support at a time of change. 

We sought PURE Co's expertise for a very important internal event that enabled our new team to learn from a high performance environment.

An idea is born 

We have seen top level sports teams work through periods of change and growth, and we recognised parallels with this and the journey that Tarmac was about to embark on. This sparked the idea of Tarmac taking their executive committee to the home of a high performing sports team, to really understand and get to grips with what they do to develop through change.

Bath Rugby’s Farleigh Performance, provides a consultancy that helps business leaders and organisations stay ahead of the game. It gives companies the opportunity to gain insights on their training techniques and ways of getting the very best out of their team. With our relationship with Bath Rugby we worked together to start creating the structure of a potential training day, we then pitched the concept to Tarmac - and they loved it.

The perfect venue 

The event took place at Farleigh House - the home of the Premiership Rugby team - a beautiful 200 acre Grade I listed estate with an amazing training complex. This was the perfect environment for a two day performance training programme, set to inspire and empower a different way of thinking.

We had interactive workshops with members of the team, including ex-Captain Stuart Hooper and Head of Player Recruitment. We shared our philosophies and understanding of what it takes to work in a high performing environment and learnt a lot that we could take forward in our own team.

Bath Rugby's ex-captain and their Head of Player Recruitment both talked to the group about how they go about creating one of the best teams in the country. They discussed how they plan and prepare the players the week before the match, how they conduct their post-match analysis to continuously improve, and explained how important player recruitment and development is to the success of the team. Tarmac gained invaluable insights about what goes into running a successful sports team and how they can apply similar tactics within their management team. 

Not all work and no play

After each day of training PURE Co arranged a group activity; a private dining event on the first night and a trip to Bath Racecourse the next - with a private box, three course dinner and drinks. We also arranged accommodation and executive travel throughout the duration of the event, as well as a PURE Co hostess on-hand to ensure everything ran smoothly.  

It was a unique event that was completely tailored to the situation within our organisation at the time. PURE Co demonstrated their understanding of our business and their attention to detail was spot on.

The event was an out and out success and worked to really improve relationships within the team, helping them to find ways of working together to move towards achieving the company’s vision and goals.
